Ever since my mother read “The Hobbit” to me and my sister as a child, I’ve been intrigued by storytelling, not just for the fanciful characters and setting of books and movies, but for the deeper wisdom we can learn from them.
To me, writing is a sacred art. In the Book of Third Enoch, it mentions how the prophet Enoch invented written language, and as a reward for his unwavering righteousness, he was carried into Heaven by the Archangel Haniel, where he was transformed into the most exalted angel and Scribe of God, Metatron. Of all the magnificent celestial beings, including Michael the warrior and Raphael the cosmic physician, the highest angel of them all is a writer, and to me that says a lot.
Perhaps it is because everyone and everything in the universe has a story to tell, from the smallest electron to the largest galaxy, and each and every one of us. Writers have a deep understanding of the human condition, and so they shape our perception of reality, and to an extent, even create it, and that is something truly powerful…
That is why I write.
